Excited!

Okay so last year I followed the news about Sewing Summit like a hawk and knew that I had to go! Sewing, blogging, learning, Salt Lake City, fellow enthusiasts, new friends, fabric, FUN! But alas the schedule and funds didn't work out and I missed it. What a bummer! All the pictures and wrap-ups of the event were amazing. I vowed that would NOT happen again and I needed to go in 2012!

Swap Stuff

I just received my Name Tag for the RATZ Swap August swap! I think I was the first! It came from Minnesota from Miss Enota! Ok, I just now got that, cute! This is the darling card it was packaged in.

Farmer's Wife Friday

I had a chance to work on a few Farmer's Wife blocks this week, yay! This Garden Path was really tricky. Y-seams, need I say more? But I think it turned out O K. Nothing that a little quilting won't cover ;).

Pillows for Jennesee

My dear friend, Katie asked me to make a quilt for her daugther Jennesee's baptism! If you'd like to see the quilt, you can click HERE. It turned out pretty cute! It was for a full size bed, so it needed pillows to go with it!
I started with two pillows shams that matched the design of the quilt. I added the buttons and rick rack just like the quilt had. But my favorite part is the scalloped edge! I have always wanted to try that, and I love the way it turned out.
You can see it even better in this picture. The back of the pillows are made from bright pink minky just like the quilt. Then I made covered buttons to enclose them.
Here is the other sham, using different fabrics for the "flowers".
Then I made her a name pillow just like I had done for Jennesee's sister, Heidi. I got the original pattern from Polka Dot Chair and tweeked it a little to accomadate the longer name. It's such a beautiful name, but I had a little trouble with the spelling and it took a couple of times to get it right!
I stipple quilted the white background, in the ditch quilted around the rectangles and used a feather stitch to accent the border. The flower is accented with a turquoise sequin to give it sparkle.  The ruffly border is made from pink ribbon.
The last pillow is just for Jennesee because she loves sea turtles! I used the scraps I had left and pieced this pillow and made a little turtle. I accented the turtle with sequins, buttons, and embroidery.
The back of the pillow is also made with minky and a covered button enclosure.
I sure hope Jennesee is happy with them, and I'm excited that her bed is finally complete! :)

Rainbow Sherbet Needlebook

I have been road trippin' for almost 2 weeks! I will have to post pictures of our travels soon, but for now this will have to do. This is my needlebook for this month's RATZ Swap! The due date was the day after I returned from vacation, so I had to move fast! Luckily I was able to work on the hexies on the road.

I used a pattern from the book Hexa Go-Go by Tacha Bruecher. If you are into hexgons (like I am obsessed right now!) this is a fabulous book. The original pattern called for just fabric pieces but I made "hexagon fabric". My partner's favorite color is pink, and lucky for both of, it's mine too! She also loves orange and lime green and it made me think of Rainbow Sherbet ice cream. Yum! So that was my inspiration.
The inside has 4 felt "pages" for pins and needles and 4 pockets for scissors, etc.
I included quilting needles, a pink seam ripper, cute little pink polka dot embroidery scissors and three little pins. The center pin is a lollipop from Pinks & Needles. LOVE her things!
I hope my partner likes what I put together!
